So… in your organization, clients are updated with the latest Microsoft security updates with the help of a WSUS server. One day, you notice that a couple, or more, of clients are showing up randomly on the WSUS server admin site, 1 after another, but never 2 of them together at the same time.

1 things those clients have in common is that they have all been configured from the same image and are identical. The image has been created after having connected the initial client to the WSUS server.

So know, you need to reinitialize the identification with the WSUS server for each client. Here is the way to do it:

1- Open the registry editor.

2- Navigate to the following key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Windowsupdate

3- Delete the following entries, if present:
AccountDomainSID
SusClientID
PingID

4- Reboot the computer.

The appropriate entries will be recreated when the PC reconnects to WSUS.

System: Windows 2000, Windows XP.
